Where there isn't a sense of history, myth can begin in that region, which is just beyond the memory of our fathers, just beyond living witness... Events which can be dated and analysed, and placed at a proper distance from the present, can also at some stage begin to appear far away; can fade. Myths are fresh; they never lose their force.
(It's better to create than destroy what's unnecessary)
