Count Julian - pg. 35

fair ladies and good gentlemen, as you can see, Tangier
is a wide-open city in all the senses of the word: it has
been called the Land of the Dark Parting, because
of the ambition of the Arab girls to become platinum
blondes: Tangier is one of the world's few remaining
pleasure cities: and no questions asked: the Zoco Grande
here, is good fun on market days: snake charmers,
storytellers!: let us now sit outside the Cafe del Moro:
on your right: drink mint tea to the concerts of Arab
music: Eastern music!: its romantic mystery: real Moors:
as well as your dear American friends: a favorite
excursion is to Hercules' Caves where the hero-god lived:
the cool levante, the Eastern wind!: the
magnificent bathing beaches with such historic names!:
Trafalgar, Spratell!
