Alba, in his bitter charges accusing the Republic of
responsibility for the damage, did not seem to find it
incongruous that the Nationalist crusade was destroying
its own capital with foreign bombers, but then Franco had already
declared: 'I will destroy Madrid rather than leave it to the
Marxists.'
(It's better to create than destroy what's unnecessary)
